Exclusive Licensing Deal Delivers Web-based Electronic Research Administration Software to Research Organizations

Portland, Oregon: A partnership between Cayuse, Inc. and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) brings to market a powerful new suite of web-based solutions for electronic research administration. Designed to manage all aspects of sponsored research for higher education and healthcare organizations, the combination of software and services from the two parties offers a powerful, integrated solution unique in the industry.

Designed and developed by the Office of Research Information Systems at UNC-Chapel Hill, the software suite known internally as “RAMSeS” was designed from the ground up to manage the research enterprise at UNC-Chapel Hill and the entire UNC system of 17 campuses. With an innovative, flexible, web-based architecture, the suite adapts to handle the complex workflow, certifications, reviews, and reporting required for grant-funded research organizations of all sizes. Responding to strong market demand for the RAMSeS suite from other research universities and healthcare organizations, UNC has licensed Cayuse, Inc. as the exclusive agent for selling, implementing and supporting the RAMSeS suite of modules.

"Cayuse's approach to grant proposal development and submission dovetails nicely with our technology. This partnership advances our goal of delivering end-to-end research administration functionality for UNC and beyond," said Andrew Johns, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at UNC. "Their reputation for customer support and their experience in the industry makes Cayuse the ideal company to help UNC deploy and support RAMSeS commercially."

Cayuse is licensed to immediately deploy, configure and support RAMSeS modules under the Cayuse brand. "This development reflects our roots in academic research, and we’re extremely proud to partner with UNC on this opportunity," said Christian Harker, President of Cayuse, Inc. "Our customers frequently ask us for complementary products that match the quality and service they get from us. Partnering with UNC allows us to deliver a broad range of functionality with software that meets our standards of reliability and ease of use."

Cayuse and UNC are completing integration between Cayuse424 and RAMSeS. Both platforms are built on web-based technologies, and can be deployed in the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, which reduces IT costs and speeds deployment. In addition, the technical architecture of the RAMSeS suite permits extensive customization without programming, allowing the modules to be quickly configured to meet new and changing business needs. "The modules were architected from the beginning to give the research community the ability to modify their forms, communications and workflow on their own, while preserving the organized and scalable data structure underneath," said Johns.

Cayuse will sell and deploy the entire suite of integrated modules, which cover pre- and post-award grant management, human subjects compliance, animal research compliance, management of animal care facilities, conflict of interest certification, technology transfer and intellectual property management. All modules feature highly configurable workflow and extensive reporting tools.

Cayuse, with over 15 year of expertise in software for proposal development and electronic submission to the federal funding agencies, continues to offer Cayuse424 as a powerful standalone web-based product, and as a part of the larger integrated suite.
